Alcohol Addiction Hypnotherapy London

Do you struggle with rapid, unpredictable changes in mood? Do you find yourself leaning on alcohol to take the edge off, or even get you through the day? The experience of alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence can be the result of an increase in stress, anxiety and depression.

Alcohol overuse can contribute to sleep concerns such as insomnia, physical issues such as ulcers, acid reflux or gastritis, and can be a major contributor to memory loss and blackouts.

Decreased inhibitions and impaired judgment: Alcohol overuse can also lower inhibitions and lead to impaired judgment in day to day life. This can result in risky behaviours, poor decision-making, and actions that someone might not normally take when sober, in work, in home life and within relationships.

Alcohol addiction hypnotherapy can help.

alcohol addiction FAQs

I have put together some of the most frequent questions I am asked about hypnotherapy for alcohol addiction and there’s a few self care ideas to help you in the meantime.

My aim is to provide you with clear and straightforward answers to help you feel more confident and informed. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.

What is the main cause of alcohol addiction?

Both internal and external factors contribute to the development of alcohol addiction. Internal factors include genetics, psychological conditions, personality, personal choice, and drinking history.

External factors include family, environment, religion, social and cultural norms, age, education, and job status.

How does alcohol addiction affect the body?

Clear evidence suggests that heavy alcohol use (particularly in association with smoking) can affect the development of and increase the risk of breast, liver, esophageal, head and neck, and colorectal cancer.

Emerging evidence is also pointing to an increased risk of melanoma, prostate, and pancreatic cancer. Evidence also suggests that reducing and removing dependence on alcohol can begin to restore a healthy system.

Is drinking every day bad for you?

Occasionally, a beer or a glass of wine with dinner, or a drink in the evening, is not a health problem for most people. When drinking becomes a daily activity though, or a dependence to achieve certain feelings or behaviours, it may represent progression of your consumption and place you at increased health risks, physically and cognitively.

How does alcohol affect mental health?

The chemical changes in your brain can soon lead to more negative feelings, such as anger, depression, or anxiety, regardless of your mood. These negative feelings and disorders can then entice further dependence on alcohol.

Alcohol also slows down how your brain processes information, making it harder to work out what you’re really feeling and the possible consequences of your actions.

Is alcohol used as a coping mechanism for stress, anxiety, and depression?

Alcohol is sometimes used to manage symptoms of stress, anxiety, or depression. This is because it provides a short-term feeling of relaxation due to the increase in feel-good brain chemicals like dopamine and serotonin.

Unfortunately, excessive drinking is likely to make any existing stress or anxiety worse, and exacerbate any concerns that led someone to feeling a need for alcohol in the first place.
